Vellore district received a total of 233 mm rain in the 24 hours ending 8 am on Saturday. While Alangayam recorded 55.8 mm, the highest for the district, Tirupatthur received 44.1 mm followed by Vaniyambadi with 43 mm.

Vellore town received 10.5 mm. The average rainfall in the district was 19.44 mm.

Though there are negligible chances of floods in the town due to its high elevation, continuous rain in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh ensured that the Pullur dam at the border overflowed copiously.

The water from the dam reached Katpadi around 6 am on Saturday and crossed Ranipettai by afternoon.

Andhra Pradesh police also started restricting the tourists and devotees from visiting Kanaga Nachiamman Temple, a tourist and religious destination near the Pullur dam. The flow in the Palar will make sure that there is enough water for the upcoming summer, said government officials.
