Acting on an information by Sankar, a tailor of Peneswara madam village, near Kaveripattinam, SI Ramesh Kumar was seeking a bribe to avoid registering a criminal case against him for assaulting a relative woman over a property issue.
The tainted cop had asked for Rs 20,000, but agreed to take Rs 10,000 from the complainant. Not wanting to pay the money, Sankar informed DVAC sleuths, who laid a trap by giving him chemical-laced currency notes.
The cop was caught red-handed, when he took the bribe at a tea shop in Kaveripattinam.
The sub inspector was then produced in Krishnagiri judicial magistrate and sent to Hosur sub jail.
Just a fortnight ago, an inspector and a head constable from Kovilpalayam station in rural Coimbatore were caught by DVAC sleuths when they demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 5,000 from one Ilanchezian in rural Coimbatore to avoid booking him in a theft case.
