    Thirumavalavan seeks Rs 1 crore for suicide victims’ families

    The state government should provide Rs 1 crore compensation each to the families of the four Class 11 students of the Panapakkam Government Girls Higher Secondary School who committed suicide on November 24, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thirumavalavan said on Wednesday.

    Stating that it was lamentable that the state government neither issued a statement condoling the deaths, nor dispatched any ministers to visit the families, he said that it was distressing that students continued to commit suicide in Tamil Nadu for various reasons. 

    Flaying the government for failing to institute an inquiry commission to probe the four suicides, he said his party would conduct an agitation soon. He also demanded that stringent action be taken against those responsible for the death of the four students. 

    VCK’s stir on Prakash suicide

    About 100 cadres of the VCK (Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi) made a fervent plea to the government to arrest the Principal, department head and another teacher under the SC/ST Act to ensure justice to Prakash, a student of Kavin Government College of Fine Arts, who hanged himself near his house at Adukamparai on the outskirts of Vellore a few days ago. 

    Agitating in front of the government Anna Kalai arangam in Vellore on Wednesday, they demanded that adequate compensation be paid to his next of kin, failing which the government should provide them enough land to eke out a livelihood.
