AIADMK struggles to pick 1 from 27
Even while the principal Opposition DMK and sidelined leader TTV Dinakaran are set to enter the RK Nagar bypoll race, the tussle in the ruling AIADMK over getting the party ticket is hampering declaration of the candidate, amid mounting resistance from the supporters of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to the nomination of presidium chairman E Madhusudhanan, a known supporter of party person.
Chennai
The party’s parliamentary board meeting scheduled for Wednesday was deferred to Thursday as no end was in sight to the wrangling in the party with 27 party functionaries, including Parliamentary Board member Thamizhmagan Hussain, former Mayor candidate N Balaganga and former minister Gokula Indira challenging Madhusudhanan’s nomination.
The official reason for postponing the Parliamentary Board meeting is for allowing the Chief Minister to take part in the MGR centenary celebrations in Thanjavur. After the party’s diktat to functionaries not to talk to the media, most of the functionaries were reluctant to speak about the ongoing squabbles. But, they maintained that there is time till December 4 for filing the nominations and the candidate would be announced by Thursday.
TTV Dinakaran to contest in RK Nagar
The TTV Dhinakaran camp on Wednesday officially announced that he would contest the RK Nagar bypoll. “He will contest with the “approval” of VK Sasikala,” senior leader S Anbazhagan said.
