Notice on plea against filling of posts in medical services
The Madras High Court has ordered notice on a plea seeking to restrain the authorities concerned from filling the senior resident/assistant professor posts in the TN Medical Services, by appointing candidates selected to the temporary post of assistant surgeon (specialty) under the walk-in-interview category.
Chennai
Justice T Raja, before whom the writ petitions from Dr R Sudhakar and seven others came up for hearing on Monday, ordered notice returnable by December 4.
The petitioners contended that they were appointed as Assistant Surgeons in TN Medical Services through the TN Public Service Commission under service candidates’ category and were pursuing the final year PG degree course. They will complete the course in April/ May 2018 and they will be eligible to be posted as Senior Residents (SRs) or Assistant Professors (APs) in the respective specialty department according to their qualifications in the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) side, as per the rules and government orders, based on their CML seniority.
While so, the government has decided to fill several hundred posts of SR/ AP in DME side with persons selected for the temporary post of Assistant Surgeon (Specialty) by Medical Services Recruitment Board through walk-in-interview, whereas they are not eligible to be appointed to the posts and there cannot be any action by the government to fill the posts in DME side without reference to the civil medical list seniority.Â
