Chennai
The suggestions that has been listed by his party to the state government was the outcome of a threeday seminar conducted recently to collect ideas of how to improve the syllabus even while keeping in line with the present advancements in the sector. The former union minister welcomed the state government’s move to update the school syllabus and congratulated the committee for releasing the syllabus.
“As per the Kothari recommendations, the government should allocate six per cent of the state’s GDP for education, which will amount to Rs 70,000 crore. If this is not possible, the state should allocate at least 5 per cent, which is 57,000,” he pointed out.
A special training should be organised for the teachers to enable them to understand the syllabus in order to improve coaching levels in schools across the state. The syllabus in many other states like Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan were of good quality. Tamil Nadu should sign an agreement with those states to exchange the students for a month every year, which will enable the children to understand and learn the good aspects of their syllabus also,” the PMK said as part of its suggestions.
The party further said, “Educational trip should be conducted for government school students, who should later be asked to give their feedback on the tour. “After the syllabus change is implemented, all the four education boards should be merged. The school education department should ensure that the same syllabus is followed in the govt and private schools following the state’s syllabus.”
Officials from the school education department say that they would study all suggestions and take a final call after consulting experts.
