Teacher held for chopping boy’s hair

On Saturday, a Class 8 boy S Surendar (13), studying in Government Higher Secondary School at Kulikarai in Tiruvarur district came to the school reportedly with unkempt hair. Class teacher Vijaya (42) called the boy and took a scissor and chopped off his hair.

Subsequently, Surendar, who felt humiliated, refused to go to school. When his parents asked him the reason, he narrated the entire incident and said that he was not interested in going to school from then on.

On Sunday, his parents along with the relatives gathered in front of the school and raised slogans against the teacher. They demanded the education department to initiate severe action against the teacher.

Meanwhile, the incident went viral in the social media and on Monday, Elementary Educational officer Saroja visited the school and conducted an inquiry. Later, the teacher Vijaya was booked under the POCSO Act and arrested. Subsequently, district Collector Nirmalraj issued a suspension order to the teacher.
