PMK flays GO on Tamil relief for some schools
The Pattali Makkal Katchi has taken exception to the exemption granted to linguistic minorities in the state from Tamil Compulsory Act 2006 by the Education Department.

In a statement on Monday, party president S Ramadoss said, “By exempting the schools from such an Act, the state government has betrayed Tamil language, as anyone in the state can get a ‘doctorate degree’.”
Stating that after establishing English-medium schools in large numbers, Tamil language was removed from such schools, he said that the private schools had created illusions that studying Tamil language would not be helpful in career development.
“During the DMK regime in 2006, the Tamil Compulsory Act was implemented and according to the Act, Tamil language was introduced from Class 1,” the PMK founder said and added that during the period in 2015-16, using Tamil language in the schools was extended to Class 10. However, some private schools filed litigations in the Court and Tamil not made compulsory in such schools, he added.
Accusing the state government of failing to oppose the imposition of Hindi by the Centre, Ramadoss asked the government to revoke the GO issued by the Education Department.
