Kovai techie death: Plea in HC against MGR fete hoardings
As outrage builds up over the fatal fall of a software engineer K Ragupathy at Coimbatore after he hit an arch blocking the road at CMC junction and was runover by an unidentified vehicle, the Madras High Court has been moved seeking for a direction to declare as illegal, erection of hoardings, banners, arches and flex-boards on roads for MGR Centenary celebrations set for dec 3.

When the first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar commenced their sitting, an urgent hearing of the issue was sought for. The first bench, however, sought the counsel to move his plea and that it would be taken up in the regular course.
N Karthick, the DMK MLA from Singanallur Assembly constituency who filed the PIL, also prayed for a direction to the government to pay suitable compensation to the techie’s family, whose two-wheeler hit against a wooden log protruding from a hoarding, resulting in his fatal fall on November 26.
