Four teenagers were picked up by the police on Thursday for allegedly barging into a government higher secondary school at Morattupalayam near Uthukuli in Tirupur district and assaulting two students.

Though the assault took place two weeks ago, the incident came to light only after a video taken by one of the students went viral on WhatsApp and other social media.
Students shockedÂ
The video shows a group of youngsters assaulting two students in uniform on the school premises. Many other students, who were shocked by the attack, could be seen watching the incident helplessly. This incident drew widespread condemnation from academicians and parents over students being left
in an unsafe condition on the school premises.
Meanwhile, Nagaraj, father of one of the affected students, lodged a complaint with the Uthukuli police station, on Thursday, seeking action and a probe into the assault.
Police inquiries revealed that eight persons (all aged around 17 and said to be former students of the same school) had assaulted the two boys studying in Class 11 at the Government Higher Secondary School in Morattupalayam on November 8.
Hunt on for 4 others
Police have secured four of the eight-member gang in connection with the assault and have launched a hunt for the other four. Police suspect that previous enmity could be the reason for the attack. However, the exact reason for the assault would emerge only after investigations.
