Trisha excited about her new role

Trisha’s excitement is palpable as she settles for a conversation with us. And not without reason. The actress, on Monday, became the Celebrity Advocate for child rights for UNICEF for the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. 

Trisha, who is known for various philanthropic activities, says, “I have always wanted to do something for the welfare of children and this is a great platform. I look forward to my journey with UNICEF.” 

The actress also says that she doesn’t want to merely promote this campaign. “It is not about promoting it on social media or being a spokesperson, I will be travelling to every district in Tamil Nadu and Kerala for the uplift of children and be a part of the change that I want to see,” she adds. 

Turning nostalgic, she says, “Back in my school days, we had a lot of extracurricular activities. We had a separate class called dramatics, which helped me shed the fear of performing on stage. It also helped me face the camera without inhibitions. So, I’m going to focus on endorsing overall education, including the knowledge they gain from the books, and art.” 

She also has a piece of advice for tiny tots. “What you see in movies is only fantasy. Movies can influence kids easily. So, treat it as entertainment and not take it seriously.”

As the conversation moves towards cinema, we ask her about her friend, actor Nayanthara’s Aramm, that has received an overwhelming reception from both the audience and critics. “Though I haven’t watched it yet, I have been hearing a lot of good things about her performance and the film in totality. We need such female centric movies in Tamil. It’s the need of the hour,” she adds. 

Speaking about her dream role, the actress, who has Garjanai, Mohini, Sathuranga Vettai 2 and Paramapadha Vilayattu, apart from her Mollywood debut Hey Jude in the pipeline, says she would love to play J Jayalalithaa in her biopic. 

“She’s been a huge inspiration. She’s one of the most powerful women we’ve ever seen. So, it would be an honour to reprise her,” she says with a smile. But will she ever enter politics in real life? “As of now, politics is just a word and a completely different world to me. I haven’t made any decision on entering the arena,” she signs off.
