‘Konar notes needed for actor’s posts’

She was speaking to reporters after she visited a few hotels in T Nagar to know if the benefits of GST reduction were passed on to the customers. “Actor Kamal Haasan was expressing his views through twitter, but Konar notes (a popular Tamil guide for text books) would be required to understand his comments,” she said. After having idlis in a hotel, she said, the hotels should place a price index of the rates earlier and the modified prices.

“We will appreciate if the hotels followed the rules. We will request them to comply with the rules if they did not do so. If they did not heed to our request, we will give complaints and take action,” she said. As per government’s rule, tin packed food items, the labels on reduced prices should be affixed without concealing the earlier rates, she said. Most of the working people depend on hotels and the GST rates for food items in hotels were reduced from 18 per cent to 5 per cent. 

But, the hotels had not reduced the food prices, she said and added that non-branded food items had been exempted from GST.
