Engineer’s all-in-one model to resolve problems of farmers
After extensive research for 16 years, a software engineer from Karaikudi in Sivaganga district proposed a new model based on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for farmers. “The model will address problems right from sowing to selling,” said the engineer.

Addressing the media in Madurai, engineer Thiruchelvam said, farmers face several problems right from failing to calculate input cost subsidy to calculating yield and fail to assess market-driven demands. They also face problem from middlemen.
Explaining the model he said that Information and Process Management Centres called ‘Kiosks’ should be set up at every village which will be looked after by two persons.
The kiosks will have computers connected to internet. The centre will have all details such as land owned by a farmer, history of crops cultivated, yield and failure of crops in the recent years and so on. It will be operated on public private partnership (PPP) and to provide free assistance about all stages of farming.
The kiosk will be connected directly to the market for receiving orders from the seller. The kiosk will in turn inform the farmer and help him sell the produce at a higher price by eliminating the middleman. The model will be implemented at Veppankulam village in Sivaganga district.
