On receiving information about a man wallowing in his own filth for over a month, and one who appeared to be mute and incapable of moving, Inspector M Pughazhendhi immediately swung into action. He immediately asked Sub-Inspector K Palani and Head Constable K Sivakumar to buy the indigent man food and water. The destitute was unable to speak, and was not able to convey his thoughts to others. When lime rice was provided, the destitute ate with his left hand as his right hand was paralysed and useless.

He could understand gestures and when a piece of paper was given to him, he wrote down some sentences in a language which nobody could understand. Pughazhendhi said he would ask staff in Vellore CMC hospital to decipher the handwriting.

Police called for 108 ambulance and when it arrived, the destitute, who was also provided clean clothes by the police, was assisted by autorickshaw driver S Saravanan onto a stretcher provided by the ambulance. He has been moved to the Vellore GH for treatment.
