Man succumbs to burns; AIADMK woman arrested for job scam

Fifty five-year-old Thangaraj, running a cycle puncture shop in the premises rented out by Kalyani, 40, AIADMK’s women’s wing area secretary at Pallipalayam in Namakkal district died without responding to treatment.

A resident of Odapalli village, Kalyani was working in a library that falls under Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department. She took Rs 11 lakh from Thangaraj promising to get his relative a government job. She received the money six months ago, but failed to get the promised job.

When Thangaraj began to pester her, Kalyani gave him an appointment order for a government job. But, he came to know that it was a fake one. On November 18, Thangaraj met Kalyani and asked his money back. But, she abused and threatened him. Depressed over the developments, Thangaraj set himself ablaze.

On hearing his cries, neighbours came to his help and doused the fire. He was admitted to the Erode GH, where he died without responding to treatment on Monday. Following this, police have secured Kalyani for abetting suicide and cheating.
