Join hands against BJP, Pandian urges parties
Giving a clarion call to all ‘secular parties’ to join hands against the BJP, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Pandian on Sunday said that an alliance should be formed comprising both state and national parties with secular credentials to defeat the communal motives of the BJP and rescue India from their clutches.

“Besides the Congress and left parties, the alliance should also comprise all secular parties that enjoy the backing of people,” he told the reporters in Coimbatore.
Stating that the Indian economy has been hit due to wrong policies of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government, the CPI leader said that demonetisation and GST have affected more than three lakh small scale industries, leaving nearly 15 lakh persons jobless.
“India is slipping backwards on the economic front. Prime Minister Modi is trying to form an alliance with Israel and America against China. Indeed, a mega alliance should be formed by all secular parties to rescue the country from the hold of the BJP,” he said.
The CPI leader slammed the AIADMK government for failing to curb dengue deaths. Pandian urged the state to import sand from Burma, Sri Lanka and Malaysia to tide over the sand crisis in the state and to prevent illegal sand mining in the rivers.
He urged the government to compensate drought hit farmers as the recent spell of rains benefited only the coastal districts. He also found fault with the desilting works done by the government.
“The state has failed to desilt water ways properly as only three out of 30 temple tanks across Chennai are reportedly filled up. Channels remain blocked as water didn’t flow into the tanks. Efforts should be taken to remove such clogs to harvest the rain water in the subsequent spells,” he noted.
