On November 11, the public besieged the lorries illegally mining sand and manhandled the drivers. Subsequently 14 lorries were confiscated.

But, illegal sand mining reportedly continued in Cauvery and Amaravathi river beds. Therefore, Collector G Govindaraj constituted 30 vigilant teams in Karur and Kulithalai taluks. Each team comprising a VAO, a village assistant and a police personnel would patrol the Cauvery and Amaravathi river banks from 7 pm till dawn. The teams would also secure vehicles ferrying illegally mined sand and hand them over to the nearest police station.

The Collector also warned of severe action against those who are indulged in sand mining.

Meanwhile, the administration received information that the sand miners used bullock carts to transport sand and sell them in the night.

Therefore, the officials dug up the land at Thirumanilayur in Karur where the road leads to Amaravathi river. Similarly, the district administration has also decided to fence all the pathways leading to the Cauvery and Amaravathi.
