Participating in the foundation laying ceremony for MGR centenary celebrations, the Minster said that Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s visit does not amount to infringement of state’s right.
“He just reviewed various Central government schemes, including the implementation of smart city project. There is nothing wrong if the Governor meets government officials. He (Purohit) had had such meetings in other states also where he served as Governor earlier,” he told reporters here.
To a query on the proposed visit by the Governor to all the districts, the Minister said, “We will definitely welcome it wholeheartedly if the Governor inspects all other districts. I cannot say inspections wouldn’t be held if the late CM J Jayalalithaa was alive.”
The Governor, who was on a two-day visit to Coimbatore held discussions with officials, participated in cleanliness drive, met representatives of NGO’s and also took part in a tree plantation drive in Tirupur district. His review meetings raised uproar as opposition political parties saw that as snatching away the rights of the state autonomy.
Meanwhile, the Minister tried to play down the corruption charges leveled by BJP leader Vanathi Srinivasan on the AIADMK government as baseless. “The AIADMK is running a clean government in the state,” Sreenivasan stressed.
Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development SP Velumani, School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan, Electricity Minister P Thangamani, Animal Husbandry Minister Udumalai K Radhakrishnan, Transport Minister MR Vijayabaskar, Deputy Speaker Pollachi V Jayaraman were among those who participated.
