Two Leaves verdict likely after November 13

The curtains came down on the hearing of the much-awaited ‘Two Leaves’ symbol with the Election Commission rejecting the demand of side-lined AIADMK leader TTV Dinakaran’s lawyers to continue arguments and adjourning the verdict without fixing a date.

The ruling AIADMK (Amma) faction headed by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, finally came out of the Commission’s office in a cheerful mood, stating that they are on the verge of obtaining the magical symbol of party founder MGR, which could swing the factional feud in their favour. However,
Dinakaran’s supporters said their leader would approach the Supreme Court if the verdict went against them. The Commission refused to continue the hearing despite repeated pleas by Dinakaran’s advocates.
It directed both the factions to file their arguments in writing before November 13, indicating that a verdict could be expected in a couple of weeks. Leaders belonging to EPS faction said the verdict could be expected any time after November 13. Manoj Pandian said the verdict would be in their favour and asserted, “It is only a matter of a few weeks after which the symbol will be allotted to us.
We have proved that a majority of the general council members, MLAs and MPs are with us”. Law Minister CV Shanmugam said Dinakaran’s faction had argued the case only to block the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol permanently and to delay the case. Mukul Rohatgi, lawyer of the ruling party faction, said they would get the ‘Two Leaves’ soon.
