The app is tailor-made for each individual registered user . Reminder messages will pop up in real time mode on their mobiles. Cane growers can register their date of planting and receive continuous advice and reminder messages on real time mode. The user can also raise queries with ‘query handler’ as text or in graphic form. Experts will respond through SMS or e-mail.

It would serve as a useful digital guide to about five million cane growers in India and will definitely help boost cane production. It is hoped that it will serve as a potential channel of communication to the growers.

The app’s Hindi version ‘Gaana Salahkar’ and English version Cane Advisor are already in use by cane growers and are becoming popular too. “This mobile app is the result of a 15-month- long research project funded by the extramural project, Division of Agricultural Extension of ICAR,” said T Rajula Shanthy, project leader and head extension, ICAR-SBI, Coimbatore.

The app is android based and can be downloaded for free from the google play store.
