Kin find no fault with TN cops, but welcomes order

The family of KN Ramajayam (brother of KN Nehru) are hopeful of justice for the murder as the case has been transferred to CBI on Tuesday. Ramajayam’s widow had been petitioning to transfer the case to CBI since 2015 after investigation by CB-CID had been moved at a snail’s pace.

Ramajayam was found dead on the banks of the Cauvery in Tiruchy after he went for a morning walk on March 29, 2012. The Thillainagar police had registered a case. Later, the case was transferred to the CB-CID in June 22, 2012 and the agency started their investigation process on June 27, 2012.

As there was no progress in investigations even after years, Ramajayam’s widow, Latha moved the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court in December 11, 2014 seeking a CBI probe into the case. The court then directed the CB-CID to speed up investigations. And later the Madurai Bench fixed the deadline as July 24, 2015.

Still, the CB-CID had appealed for time to complete the process. And in the latest, the Court had asked the investigating agency to submit report and the status of the investigation process by October 28, 2015. Meanwhile, the investigating officials had accelerated the investigation and as a part of which around 177 witnesses were interrogated.

Later, a narco analysis test was conducted on two of Ramajayam’s associates based on which the CB-CID prepared a 20-page report and submitted it before the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court. Still, the agency could not come to a conclusion in the case.

Meanwhile, Ramajayam’s widow Latha appraoched the High Court in 2015 approached to transfer the case to the CBI. The CBCID had displayed wall posters across the state in September 2017 demanding the public to give some useful lead to the agency.

On Tuesday, after hearing the transfer of case, the family welcomed the development. “We do not find fault with the Tamil Nadu police.

They were moving in the right direction. Something prevented from bringing out the truth,” KN Nehru said soon after the news broke out. He also said that the family had to ask for the CBI inquiry as there was no improvement in the investigation process for two years. “Now, we are hopeful that the truth will be out,” Nehru added.
