No new TASMAC shops on highways within Municipal limits Even as lack of clarity prevailed over setting up of TASMAC shops on national and state highways within Municipal limits, the State Government offered an undertaking to the Madras HC that no fresh shops will be opened within the prohibited distance along the national or state highways even within the municipal areas in the State.

When a plea moved by the Advocate Forum for Social Justice challenging the permission given for setting up of TASMAC shops in violation of the Supreme Court order came up before the first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar, advocate general Vijay Narayan made the above submission.
Also, on recording his submission that a clarification application is pending before the Supreme Court and the State is trying to bring up the matter early, the bench posted the matter for further hearing to November 20.
