Kamal reaps farmers support by seeking CMB, opposing Neduvasal
Kamal Haasan, often seen as lacking the connect with the rural masses, sowed the seeds for reaping farmers support for his political endeavour at a function organised by the Co-ordination Committee of Tamil Nadu All Farmers Association in the city on Saturday.

He supported the demand of state farmers to form the Cauvery Management Board, a move that would put him ahead of superstar Rajinikanth, who is stressing on linking of national rivers as a solution for delta farmers and at the same remaining silent on CMB formation.
He also joined the opposition to the Neduvasal hydro carbon project and asserted that agriculture should be protected at any cost, since food is more important than hydrocarbon. He also backed waiver of crop loans by the banks and urged his fans to restore the lakes and ponds in the state. He said that his fans will join the farmers’ struggles in batches.
“Man can live without hydrocarbon, but not without food,” he quipped. Strongly supporting the demand for declaring agriculture as an industry, he asked when making Pepsi and Coke and producing cinema could be considered as industry, why agriculture could not be announced as one.
“When war approaches, we can live without Pepsi, Coke and cinema, but even for a warrior, food is essential,” Kamal said thanking the farmers for the food we eat. He further urged the farmers to get angry and fight for their rights. “You should not search for a leader, but look out for a worker. I have five lakh followers behind me. You tell your plans to me. I will send them in batches to further your ideas,” he stressed.
Stating that the rains should not be feared, Kamal appealed to the people to worship the rain, ponds and lakes and preserve the water bodies.
Apparently referring to corruption by politicians, he said, “We should not beg for carrying out the schemes for us. We should order them with authority to do the work.”
