He inspected the desilting process at Guntoor in Tiruverumbur constituency. He said that if the desilting works had been initiated prior to the monsoon, these waterbodies could have been used to store rain water.

“Since the government has failed on this score, the DMK is now desilting waterbodies in the constituencies of its members, on a war footing,” said Stalin.

Stalin claimed that the DMK had raised the issue already in the Assembly and the Chief Minister had said that Rs 400 crore had been allocated for desilting works across the state. “Still, the CM had convened a meeting at Salem where there was no remarkable rainfall recorded, and said that the waterbodies in the district were full after the government had initiated desilting works. This is an absolute lie”, remarked Stalin.

“If the government had properly completed the desilting works, they can issue a White Paper on the scheme of work and the spots they had desilted, ” Stalin said and commented that the government had actually made money over the works by collecting commissions.

“Once they had made money through gutkha scam and now they have extorted money through the kudimaramathu scheme. And this is my open charge,” said Stalin. When asked about the minister’s claim about tackling floods, Stalin rued that they may have several schemes as suggested by Sellur K Raju and it may be possible to have better plans than the US, Russia and the UK.

Stalin claimed that the ministers have been collecting funds from the ONGC and allowing them for the phase II extraction projects.

Stating that the RK Nagar by-polls were put off after the election commission found cash distribution to the tune of Rs 89 crore and the subsequent raids at minister C Vijaya Baskar’s house, Stalin said that the DMK never wanted to drop the by poll.
