The Collector who conducted a surprise raid at the Thanjavur railway station found plastic cups and carry bags littered along the track for nearly two kilometres. He was furious and asked the railway manager to remove them immediately as it would serve as a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes that spread dengue.

Subsequently, when the Collector went to the porter’s room, he found that the water tank was not properly covered and immediately asked the persons in charge to clean the tank and ensure that it was covered properly.

Later, when he inspected other sections of the railway station, he was aghast at the indifference of the authorities in general and their callousness in maintaining the drains. He, therefore urged the Thanajvur Corporation Commissioner to issue notice to the railway station directing to improve cleanliness in the premises.

Later, the Collector went to the head post office area and inspected the shops around the post office and the some of the offices close by. He instructed them to initiate steps to prevent dengue. He also asked the public to cooperate with the district administration in the dengue prevention activities.
