10,000 diaspora Tamil kids to be enrolled in fine arts classes
Around 10,000 children of Diaspora Tamil living in six countries would be enrolled in music and dance classes in the next three months. They would be monitored and certified by Tamil Cultural Centre of Tamil University, said Vice Chancellor G Baskaran.

Speaking at the Si Pa Aditanar endowment lecture at the University on Tuesday, the vice-chancellor elaborated that students would be trained by institutions identified by the University with whom MoUs had been signed. Music teachers of the university would conduct the final phase of the training and exams and also issue certificates.
“Already 3,000 students from the US, 2,000 from UK, 2,000 students from Germany, France and Switzerland, 1,000 from Malaysia and 1,000 from Sri Lanka have expressed willingness to join the course,” he pointed out. “The Government has allotted Rs 20 lakh per year for the course,” he said.
Maalan, the renowned writer and senior Journalist, speaking on the topic “Human values and visual media” said the question arises whether the human values have eroded due to the advent of the visual media. He was of the view that news channels highlighted the issues of the people to attract the attention of those in authority.
He pointed out that the Tamil culture was based on the ethics of valour and charity and harmonising the interest of the state with the people and the Tamil society during Sangam period was democratic, diversified, plural and secular. He said while there are attempts to construct a monolithic identity, single language and single culture, the media has been working to restore democracy, he added.
