Speaking at a review meet in Salem on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that government hospitals and primary health centres in the state have been equipped with advanced machineries in adequate numbers to diagnose dengue and provide timely treatment.

“The results on the platelet count can be known in just 40 seconds. Special care is given to dengue affected persons at government hospitals and primary health centres. The government is striving hard to make the state entirely free of fever cases,” he said.

Appealing to students to create awareness among the public on eradicating dengue mosquito breeding sources in their neighbourhood, the Chief Minister said that students should visit the public once in a week to create awareness on eliminating sources for dengue breeding mosquitoes.

Palaniswami said that Salem district is prepared to tackle the north east monsoon rains. “Though the district has a number of lakes and ponds, only water bodies located near Yercaud hills and Omalur have received a good amount of water. Only a good north east monsoon will help the farmers. So, the government has been taking all types of efforts to store rainfall, which may increase the ground water table and help in improving the livelihood of farmers,” he said.
