Talking to reporters at the airport, Stalin, quoting media reports, said that the government has undertaken flood mitigation works in RK Nagar in the aftermath of his visit. Expressing satisfaction at the government response to his RK Nagar visit, the DMK working president said that a few hours rain would not have caused large scale inundation had the government taken up similar flood mitigation works in all places, as it did in RK Nagar.

The DMK working president justified his RK Nagar visit by arguing that he had visited the constituency only after the ruling party leaders attributed political motives to his last week’s statement asking the government to take stock of the met department’s warnings and undertake elaborate flood mitigation works before the northeast monsoon intensified.

Earlier in the day, Stalin condemned the state government for slapping sedition case against profession Jayaraman for authoring a book against inter-linking of rivers. In a sarcastic messaged posted on his official twitter handle, Stalin called the ruling AIADMK a ‘sidekick’ of the BJP led Centre.

In another tweet, the DMK working president referred to the state government allocating Rs 10 crore for instituting Tamil chair at Harvard University and asked the Union government to allocate required funds for the same.

Taking a dig at the ruling BJP and AIADMK on the issue of tolerance or the lack of it, he said those in power should be tolerant to criticism and develop the maturity to accept criticism and initiate constructive action on the same.

“On the contrary, the ruling BJP and AIADMK are rebutting criticism and instigating violence in return, which is condemnable,” he noted.
