Twitter tamasha over Kamal’s delay in entry

While speculations were rife that Kamal Haasan would announce his political party on November 7 on his birthday, the actor-producer in a tweet on Thursday said “public announcements will come at the people’s forum.”

This in turn evoked strong response from Twitterati, who said that neither he nor Rajinikanth will step into politics anytime soon. Memes with Vadivelu and Koundamani dialogues also went viral across social media.

In 1996, people had expected Rajini to enter politics when the actor had campaigned for the DMK-TMC alliance the Assembly elections. Though Rajini had always hinted at a political plunge through his popular dialogues, he is yet to make a formal announcement.

Post Mersal, there were reports about actor Vijay announcing his political entry before December. However, a source close to the actor denied these rumours and said, “He has no such plans as of now.”

A couple of months ago, huge hoardings were put up by actor Vishal Krishna’s fan clubs across the state and this had hinted at the actor-producer’s foray into politics, but the actor dismissed the speculations and said, “I don’t have the money now to float a party. I will decide when the time comes.”

So far, only a few actors like MG Ramachandran and Vijayakanth from tinsel town have successfully made their entry into politics after their making their intentions clear.

While MGR managed to extend his success in the film industry and remains, to date, one of the most popular leaders in the state, Vijayakanth managed to become the Leader of Opposition within a few years of forming DMDK.
