CM inaugurates police facilities, takes stock of airports’ expansion

“The state is committed to extending the necessary amenities toeing the line of the late CM J Jayalalithaa. Amenities such as construction of police stations, residential quarters and provision of patrol vehicles, among others, would help cops dispense their duties effectively,” said Palaniswami. 

Palaniswami also inaugurated 153 residential quarters for police personnel in Madurai, Nagapattinam, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar and Villupuram at a cost of Rs 18.59 crore. A community hall constructed in Royapuram, barracks constructed for 4th Battalion of Tamil Nadu Special Police in Kovai Pudur, Coimbatore, and upgraded Police Training academy in Navalpattu, Tiruchy, which were constructed at a cost of Rs 9.88 crore were inaugurated. 

Apart from this, Palaniswami also inaugurated the barracks constructed for 200 police personnel inside the premises of Nagercoil Armed Forces at cost of Rs 2.74 crore. Later, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the proposed airport expansion work under way in Chennai, Coimbatore, Salem, Tiruchy, Madurai and Thoothukudi, a release said.  

Additional land requirement and acquisition figured prominently in the meeting. The CM has been said to have laid a clear road map for the completion of land acquisition process for these airports. He issued instructions to commence flight service operations from Salem, Hosur, Neyveli, and Ramanathapuram besides studying feasibility to make Vellore airport functional. 

Minister for Municipal Administration SP Velumani, Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan, Civil Aviation Secretary (GoI) Rajiv Nayan Choubey, Chairman (Airports Authority of India) Guruprasath Mohapatra, Director (AAI) Venkatramana Hegde, Finance Secretary K Shanmugam, Home Secretary Niranjan Mardi, Transport Secretary PWC Davidar, Commissioner of Land Administration Mohan Pyare, Revenue Secretary P Chandra Mohan, and other senior officials were part of the review meeting. 

Inducts 316 assistant doctors   Earlier in the day, marking the induction of as many as 316 Assistant Doctors into Public Health Services, the Chief Minister gave away appointment orders to 100 new recruits, in an event at his camp office on Greenways Road.
