The defaced Wikipedia page of (L) Pon Radhakrishnan and (R) Tamilisai Soundararajan

    Chennai

The pages of Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, party’s national secretary H Raja, and state president Tamilisai Soundararajan were those under attack while their supporters and the Wikipedia vigilantes strived hard to keep everything under the wraps.

The edits targeting Radhakrishnan’s page were limited to his name, while the other two pages suffered a much harsher attack with Raja, who always goes without a surname, was given one. Soundararajan’s page had her father’s name changed besides her maiden name altered to a similar sounding funny moniker. A miscreant went further and redefined the abbreviation for the BJP.

‘Semi-protected edit request’ was sought for Raja’s page. It was made at least five times since Sunday, but is yet to be granted.

Raja, on Sunday, shared two images in his twitter handle. One is Vijay’s Electoral ID card and other is a thanks letter written by the actor to a media house which declared him as future superstar in an opinion poll, both carried the star’s name as Joseph Vijay. The tweet read, “Truth is bitter.”

The tweet sparked an outrage among Vijay fans, who took turn to abuse Raja in twitter while many added ‘Joseph’ to their profile name. Raja had very little help coming from his army and those came to his support too were countered vehemently. Vijay fans also attempted to make #IamJoseph trend in twitter.

According to Wikipedia, it is a free encyclopedia that anyone can edit, which has checks and balances such as ‘Recent changes patrolling,’ using the recent changes link to spot suspicious edits. Later in the day, all the three pages were restored to its original content.
