Prove I run kangaroo courts, says Thirumavalavan
The spat between the BJP and VCK on Vijay starrer Mersal took a different twist with VCK leader, Thol Thirumavalavan, taking strong exception to BJP State president Tamilisai Soundarajan’s allegation that he was holding kangaroo courts.

He also asked if one could say whatever one chose to, against a Dalit leader. Leaders like PMK founder S Ramadoss and Tamilisai Soundararajan think that anything could be said about a person, if he belongs to the Dalit community, he said. Speaking to the media, he challenged Tamilisai to show evidence and prove her charges that he was involved in holding kangaroo courts and indulged in land grab. But, Tamilisai had tried to defame him and he would face it legally, he said.
“Tamilisai is irritated with me since I am exposing the BJP activities. Can such allegations be made against any other leader in Tamil Nadu?” he asked. People close to the Central and state governments are functioning as members of the Censor Board and they had permitted the scenes criticising GST and digital India in the film Mersal, he said and asked what was the rationale for the BJP’s anger over the scenes cleared by the Board.
Senior BJP leaders like former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha and former Union Minister Subramanian Swamy had come down heavily on GST. Thirumavalavan pointed out and said BJP leaders had not condemned those leaders.
The attack on Vijay was politically motivated, Thirumavalavan alleged. Hours after the leader’s comments, the cadre of VCK held protests in some parts of the city urging the BJP to remove Tamilisai from her party post, alleging that she was trying to create caste clashes between Dalits and other communities.
A group of VCK activists resorted to a road blockade in Chintadripet and raised slogans against Tamilisai Soundararajan. VCK Central Chennai leader Selladurai charged the BJP leader with indulging in personal attacks. He also urged the BJP central leadership to remove Tamilisai from her post and warned of state-wide protests against her if she did not seek apology.
