Statewide protest by angry staff
Transport employees have commenced a statewide protest condemning the tragic incident and claimed that most of the buildings in the rural parts of the state are in a dilapidated condition and demanded that the state government repair them soon, in order to avoid similar incidents in future.

Members of the confederation of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) unions, who gathered in front of the divisional transport office in Tiruchy, mourned the tragic death of the eight employees.Â
They also raised slogans against the Transport department officials at Porayar depot who did not heed to the repeated appeals by the employees to renovate the old structure which had posed a threat for decades. The employees also demanded Rs one crore be paid as compensation to the family of the victims and Rs 25 lakh to the injured.Â
Similarly, in Tiruvarur, members of all trade unions, including CITU and LPF, criticised the administration for poor maintenance of the building. They also demanded the fixing of responsibility for the collapse. The protesters also demanded adequate compensation to the family of the deceased and the injured staff of the TNSTC.Â
The protest was held at the entrance to the Tiruvarur depot of the TNSTC. Similar protests were held at Pudukkottai and Thanjavur.
