Jayakumar blames drug MNCs for anti-nilavembu kudineer campaign
Hitting out at actor Kamal Haasan for his comments asking his fans not to distribute nilavembu kudineer till its scientific properties are proved, Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar on Friday said that multi-national companies involved in drug production are behind those speaking against the herbal concoction.

Speaking to reporters, the Minister, stopping short of directly charging the actor with acting as a spokesperson for the multi-national pharmaceutical companies involved in manufacture of drugs, said that the firms fear losing their market.
Recalling that the same mixture was distributed in the state when people were affected with chikungunya during the DMK regime, he said Kamal Haasan was in Tami Nadu when the DMK government distributed the same. He asked, “Why did not Kamal raise the issue at that time?”
“Whatever the present state government did or spoke, Kamal Haasan is finding fault and disputing them,” Jayakumar charged. He also said Siddha medicine had been there before the advent of English medicine. He also wanted the people to contribute for the eradication of dengue mosquitoes.
‘DMK can’t talk about corruption’
Reacting to a question on the charges of Leader of Opposition MK Stalin that corruption is prevalent in the state everywhere, the Minister said, “Everything depended on people’s perception. The DMK, which has been accused in the 2G scam, has no locus standi to speak about corruption. Stalin must remember that the verdict on 2G scam will be delivered this month.”
He also recalled that Sarkaria Commission was set up to probe the corruption charges against the DMK rule from 1971 to 1976 and added that the government at that time also faced.
