Fulfil Jayalalithaa’s promises: VP to Cabinet

Besides commissioning a Rs 4.5 crore solar power plant which would meet 80 per cent power needs of Raj Bhavan and would cut a recurring annual expenditure of Rs 45 lakh, the Vice-President also released a book titled, Those Eventful Days on Rao’s stint here, while holding additional charge since September 2016 till last month.

Claiming that he was not inclined to make any direct political comments, Naidu observed that the state needs a stable government and governance. “The Governor cannot interfere in the regular functioning of the government, because the Constitution mandates the Governor as a guide and philosopher,” he said, adding that a Governor has to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and law and devote himself to the service and the wellbeing of the people, which is his duty. 

“We have to understand the Governor’s powers and limitations. Without knowing his powers and limitations if you come with your own expectations and then get disappointed, nobody can help you.” Naidu praised Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao as having discharged his responsibilities during his tenure to the satisfaction of the Constitution. 

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said that TN is one of the front ranking states in renewable energy generation, with a total installed capacity of 1,786.48 MW of solar power, generating about 800 to 1,200 MW. Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Maharashtra Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao also participated in the event.
