2 boys crushed under granite lorry boulder
Two boys, aged 12 and six, were crushed to death, when a massive granite boulder fell on them from a truck that overturned after its wheels got struck in loose soil in Krishnagiri district on Monday morning.

Police said the victims R Harish, 12 and his six-year-old nephew Kaviarasu were sitting in front of their house with their grandmother at Nakkalpatty, when the truck laden with granite blocks passed through the way. The boys were visiting their grandmother’s house to celebrate Deepavali.Â
The truck was carrying granite loads from Andhrapradesh to a polishing unit in Nakkalpatty, when the incident happened around 7.30 am. The wheels of the truck got struck in loose soil as it ran down the road.Â
The driver, Narasimman, pressed hard on the accelerator to steer forward the vehicle, when it overturned.Â
The granite blocks, which were being carried without any safety precautions, slid down from the truck and crushed the two boys, who were sitting in front of their house, along with their grandmother Chandra, 50.
She too suffered serious injuries, as both her legs were severed. She has been admitted to Dharmapuri Government Hospital and her condition is critical.Â
On receiving information, the Kanthikuppam police rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies of the boys trapped under granite stones. Their bodies have been sent for post mortem to Krishnagiri Government Hospital.Â
Police have arrested truck driver Narasimman from Dhanaampatti village. Further enquiries are on.
