Lauding VIT for the initiative, which aimed to teach both farmers and the laymen about making agriculture profitable, he said such moves would ensure that the increasing migration to cities in search of work was reduced and ultimately stopped.
About 4,000 students from both Vellore and Tiruvanamalai districts attended the conclave, which also taught farmers the latest technological trends in agriculture and various schemes of the government.Â
A total of 75 stalls were put up by various departments related to agriculture in the government and private sector.Â
Galilee Institute of Management president Joseph Shevel dedicated SOLAI (Sustainable Organic Lifelong Agricultural Initiative) a students’ club, while professor Ramasamy also inaugurated a 25 acre farm VIAIAL (VIT Institute of Agriculture Innovations and Advanced Learning) created to teach and inculcate in students an interest in agriculture.Â
