    Road roko over lawyer’s death

    Two persons, including a woman advocate, reportedly died of dengue in Thanjavur and Pudukkottai districts on Friday. Advocates in Thanjavur staged a road roko and demanded that the government initiate dengue prevention measures.

    Kavitha (36), a Government pleader in Thanjavur, was admitted to a private hospital after a high fever since Saturday last. 

    Later, she was shifted to another private hospital, where she died.  On information, the members of Bar Association, who alleged that their colleague died of dengue, staged a road block and accused the administration of not taking adequate preventive steps against dengue. 

    Later, officials led by N Sakthivel, District Revenue Officer, C Suresh, Revenue Divisional Officer and M Varadaraj, Corporation Commissioner, held talks with the protesters, who finally dispersed. Similarly, six-year-old Lalitha, of Indira Nagar in Gandharvakottai died on Friday due to dengue. Lalitha was admitted to a private hospital as she suffered from high fever in the last week. 

    A blood test was done and the results indicated she had dengue symptoms, said sources. She was shifted to the Thanjavur Medical College. However, she died on Friday.
