Chennai
This was stated in a counter-affidavit filed by the Health Secretary and the city Corporation on a PIL filed by advocate AP Suryaprakasam seeking a direction to the government to provide treatment for dengue patients in the ICUs in private hospitals and reimburse the cost.
The counter was filed before the first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M. Sundar.
It also stated that the government's medical facilities themselves were well equipped to give the required treatment for dengue patients, whatsoever was their condition.
The government was taking all efforts to sensitise the public about dengue prevention and control.
The health insurance coverage ceiling was Rs. four lakh per family for five years and treatment in ICUs in the empanelled private hospitals for dengue complications like shock and hemorrhagic syndrome were already covered.
Moreover, there were adequate infrastructural and other facilities in government medical hospitals and no one was sent back without proper diagnosis and treatment, the counter said.
It listed the elaborate arrangements made to eradicate mosquitoes and mosquito-borne diseases.
