Four kids die as fever peaks at Salem
Death toll due to suspected dengue cases increased in Salem district with four children, three girls and a boy succumbing to fever on Thursday.

According to sources, Keerthy (8), daughter of Muthusamy and Satya of Kuttathupatty in Salem was down with fever a few days ago. The parents, who presumed it to be a normal fever, had given her medicines bought from pharmacy.Â
However, as the girl’s condition worsened, the parents took her to Salem GH, where she was diagnosed with a ‘mysterious fever’. The girl, studying class six at a private school, was then admitted in the government hospital for treatment. However, she died without responding to treatment on Thursday morning.Â
Similarly, a six-year-old Ilakkiya, daughter of Venkadesan from Nakkiyampatty near Salem was admitted in GH four days ago, but succumbed to fever. Also, Abinaya (9), daughter of Vijayakumar from Omalur area was under treatment for mysterious fever, but lost her life around 3 am on Thursday at GH.Â
In another incident, Sabarirajan (15), son of Kadiresan of Mangalam in Namakkal district, who was studying class ten at a private school, had developed mysterious fever, a few days ago. Despite being treated at Salem GH, the boy died succumbed around 11am.Â
With the death of four children on a single day at Salem GH, the parents of children undergoing treatment at the hospital were gripped in fear.
