    104 helpline gets more calls as fever cases increase

    As dengue is on the rise across the state, the 104-helpline has been receiving incessant calls from the public. Officials say that as awareness about the helpline increases, more people are approaching it.

    According to officials, the helpline received over 1,700 calls per day last month. But, the number of calls is well over 2,200 calls per day so far this month. Doctors and staff from helpline are working round the clock to provide medical advice. 

    “Earlier, the helpline received 30 calls a day pertaining to fever cases and the number of calls, as of now, is around 70. We mainly advise the people not to resort to self-medication. Also, our doctors patiently hear them out on the phone, and instruct them to visit the nearby Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Government Hospitals (GHs) and Government Medical College Hospitals, if necessary,” said an official. 

    “Public can dial 104 helpline anytime for help. In case of emergencies we can also send 108 ambulances, he added.  Dr J Radhakrishnan, state health secretary said.

    “The 104-helpline has been receiving good response from the public. I have also instructed the staff and doctors to provide necessary information to the callers.” Everything is under control and there is no need for panic, added Dr Radhakrishnan.
