Transport union members to hold talks with officials today
The tussle between state transport employees and officials continues to simmer, as transport employees complain that the officials, instead of focusing on their demands (wage increase, settlement of post-retirement benefits and disbursal of arrears) are busy scheduling to operate special buses for Deepavali.

Union members say that they would try to hold talks on Monday with officials to sort out the issues. According to union members, though the transport officials assured to hold talks in December, it would be better to hold an interim talk to reiterate the assurances. Members demanded the officials to allot time to meet the leaders of major unions.
R Natarajan, convener, Labour Progressive Federation, said, “Since the officials have assured us that our demands will be met, we gave up strike, which was scheduled on September 24. All the major unions are planning to meet on Monday to seek time for holding talks,” he said and demanded the officials to disburse a partial amount before Deepavali festival.
Similarly, Arumuga Naianar, general secretary of Tamil Nadu State Transport Employees Federation, affiliated to the CITU, said that the government should come forward to settle the benefits of employees. When DT Next contacted, V Krishnamurthy, MD of MTC and head of the government panel, denied such allegations. “We have already assured that talks will be held in the first week of December and the union members have also agreed.
