Recalling a resolution adopted against the project at the DMK executive council on March 25, 2013, and an assurance given by the then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to a special call attention motion moved on the issue in the Assembly on the same day, Stalin said that it was inappropriate for a democratically elected government to impose a project opposed by the ruling and opposition parties and farmers.Â
He said that the attempts of the BJPled Centre, do not bode well for Centre-state relations. Stalin also asked the ruling AIADMK not to fail farmers on GAIL project as it did to students on NEET and farmers on Cauvery Management Board, farm loan waiver and Mekadatu Dam issues. Stalin also lauded Kerala Chief Minister for appointing non-Brahmins, including Dalits, as priests in the Travancore Devaswom Board.Â
Meanwhile, MDMK general secretary Vaiko too on Saturday condemned GAIL for adamantly sticking to its plan of laying pipelines through agricultural lands of seven districts in the state. He urged the state not to permit the project which would affect farmers
