Orders deferred on Balaji’s posting

The first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar, who had heard arguments in this regard had reserved it order for delivery on Thursday. But when the case came up for orders, the bench deferred it. 

Dr Balaji, mired in a controversy over attesting the thumb impression of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, is now embroiled in the present controversy over the organs harvested from one Karthik, the son of a daily wage labourer from Pudukkottai, which was donated to several recipients including Natarajan.

However, the plea moved against Dr Balaji deals with his appointment as member secretary, TRANSTAN. The plea had contended that his appointment smacked of nepotism and that he neither had the qualification nor the experience to hold the post. 

It was contended that Dr Balaji was regularised illegally by violating the by-laws of TRANSTAN which states that the member secretary shall be a person with adequate experience in transplant related administration. But his purported expertise was merely on minimal invasive surgery, the plea moved by Change India director A Narayanan said.
