Police said Kandasamy, (70) was alone at his residence in Busti Garden area in Hosur, when three persons gained entry into his house and stole jewels and cash on September 26.

“While he was fast asleep, the three men broke into his house and attempted to rob by breaking open the bureau. However, Kandasamy woke up and raised an alarm. The three men strangulated him to death using a rope. They fled away with the stolen valuables,” police said.

Kandasamy was living with his daughter after his wife passed away a few years ago. “His daughter was away with her family to a relative’s house, when the burglars struck at the house and killed the elderly man,” police said.

The Hudco police registered a case and arrested the three accused persons, who then confessed to the crime. Inquiries revealed that Parthiban, an electrician from Hosur had approached the elderly man seeking a job. On knowing that Kandasamy was alone, Parthiban conspired to burgle the house with the help of his two friends Sathish Kumar and Manju, both hailing from the same neighbourhood. Police have seized 98 sovereigns of gold jewels from them and Rs one lakh in cash. Police are probing further to know if they were involved in any other offenses.
