“I request everyone to use khadi products in the maximum possible way while we celebrate the birth anniversary of Gandhi,” the Chief Minister said.
Palaniswami said the state has been offering a rebate of 30 per cent through Tamil Nadu Khadi and Village Industries Board (TNKVIB) to patronise khadi products throughout the year and that the government is hosting khadi clothes, other products locally crafted and handicrafts by weavers, women-self-help-groups and rural handicraft artisans, through its 90 Khadi stores spread across the state.
“Welfare board for khadi spinners and weavers had doled out various assistances to its 1,134 members in the past six years. The members’ children were granted educational assistance, their kin granted relief in case of natural death and children provided marriage assistance, among others, including assistance to repair their tools like chakra and loom, amounting to Rs 54.52 lakh. The state had also doubled rebate grant to Rs 34 crore from this year from Rs 17 crore in the previous year payable to TNKVIB and Sarvodaya Associations,” he said.
According to TNKVIB website, it offers employment under Village Industries Schemes to alleviate rural poverty by utilising the locally available raw materials and manpower.
