    3 of Chennai family die in accident near Thoothukudi

    Three persons including two women from the same family from Chennai, died in a road accident near Thoothukudi, on Saturday night.

    Police said that the incident happened when Rajasingh (53) from Guindy in Chennai, along with his family, was returning to Thoothukudi in a car to board the Pearl City Express to Chennai. The family had gone to Udayarkulam near Nazareth in Thoothukudi district, to attend a Church festival the previous week and had returned after the festival. 

    Nine persons including the driver of the car, were traveling on the Thoothukudi-Tiruchendur road and as it was late for the train the driver was driving the car in full speed. 

    When the car neared Madhikettanodai near Mullakadu, the driver without noticing a TNSTC bus coming in the opposite direction rammed against it. 

    In the impact, the front portion of the car was damaged extensively. In the incident, Angelin (50), wife of Rajasingh, and driver, Raja, who had suffered grievous injuries died on the spot. On hearing the cries of people trapped inside the car, onlookers rushed for help and managed to pull them out of the vehicle.

    Rathinavathi (70), mother of Rajasingh, who was rescued and sent to hospital died on the way. 

    Four more, including Rajasingh, suffered serious injuries and are being treated at the Thoothukudi GH. The bodies of three deceased were taken to Thoothukudi GH for post-mortem.

    Muthiapuram police are investigating the incident.
