Kanniyakumari Collector’s official car attached
There was minor tension at the Nagercoil Collectorate as the official car of the Kanniyakumari Collector was attached by the staff from Nagercoil court, on Monday.
Madurai
Sources said that the car was attached over delay in settlement of compensation to a petitioner to the tune of Rs1.28 lakh for land acquired by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board in 1993. A total of 42 cents of land were acquired at Vallankumaranvilai near Nagercoil from two persons, with 21 cents each from Shanmugam and Sivakamiammal.
Since the housing board delayed compensation of Rs1,28,100s the former landowners had moved the court and got an order in their favour in 2000. As the district administration failed to adhere to the Court direction the land owners once again moved the court and got a direction to implement the earlier order in 2005.
Prabhu, son of Sivakamiammal, while addressing the media at Nagercoil, on Monday, said that despite the Court direction the district administration had not fully paid the compensation amount with interest because of which the court had attached the Collector’s car.
Court staff Yogeswaran and Gopalakrishnan who had executed the order also served notices to attach 10 computers in the Collectorate. As the incident happened before a large number of people who came for the grievance day, there was minor tension at the Collectorate.
Kanniyakumari Collector Sajjansingh R Chavan said that the car that was attached was one of the vehicles allotted to him. Though compensation has been given to the individuals for the acquisition they had demanded interest for the compensation amount which was not paid.
He also said that he had extended full cooperation to the judiciary to execute the order and added that they are taking steps to revoke the order.
