Chennai
The victims — Komala, Boopathy and Mohan — were first admitted to Kancheepuram government hospital and then transferred to burns ward in Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital. While their house was destroyed in the accident, the adjacent houses too suffered damage.
After preliminary inquiry, police said that Komala and Boopathy ran the unit illegally for years in their house on Pallath Theru and the firecrackers were being made for the upcoming Deepavali season.
The other victim, Mohan, had visited the house to invite the couple for a wedding. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Police have registered a case and are on the lookout for Ramesh (40) from the locality who supplied the couple raw material for the fire crackers from his manufacturing unit in Kalavai village in Tiruvannamalai district. Steps have been taken to seal the unit in Tiruvannamalai for violating rules and illegally supplying the materials.
District Collector P Ponniah and Minister P Benjamin also visited spot.
