In order to crack a number of cases of idol theft that had taken place in Kumbakonam, three ADSPs, eight DSPs, a host of Inspectors and Sub Inspectors have been deputed. “Since more than 100 officials have been deputed on duty to investigate idol theft cases, we hope to proceed fast with the investigations,” said Pon Manickavel.
On September 13, the idol wing police had arrested DSP Kader Batcha in Kumbakonam when he attempted to meet his aides when they came to the court.
After the four-day custody ended on Friday, the DSP was brought to the Judicial Magistrate Court II in Kumbakonam. He has been lodged in judicial custody till October 6.
